Learn how to make intergalactic bath bombs - just like Lush! They're so much fun in the tub & leave your water a gorgeous sparkling blue - just like the starry night sky… FUN!
RECIPE
BLUE: 2 cups baking soda, 1 cup citric acid, 1/2 cup corn starch + 20 milliliters fragrance oil, 5 milliliters polysorbate 80, 5 milliliters water, 10 milliliters carrier oil (grapeseed), 5 milliliters liquid dye, 2 teaspoons gold mica (mojito pearl), 1/8 cup gold salt.
PINK/YELLOW (each): 1/4 cup baking soda, 1/8 cup citric acid, 1 tablespoon corn starch, 1 tablespoon sodium lauryl sulfoacetate [SLSa] (slows reactions in water) + 3 milliliters fragrance oil, 1 milliliter polysorbate 80, 1.5 milliliters water, 2 milliliters carrier oil (grapeseed), + liquid dye (pink: 12 drops red 28 * yellow: 6 drops yellow +1/16 teaspoon neon yellow).
You may use any starch. Substitute sodium lauryl sulfoacetate (SLSa) with sodium lauryl sulfate, sodium cocoyl isethionate, or sodium coco sulfate. Substitute polysorbate 80 with another polysorbate or hydrogenated castor oil, peg 40. Substitute liquid dye with water. Substitute fragrance with carrier oil. Gold mica & salt are optional.
DIRECTIONS
Blue: separately mix wet & dry ingredients. Make separate batches for neon colors. Last, add wet ingredients to blue. Mix & knead the batches well with your hands.
MOLDING
I use 3" molds. Add a scoop of blue & make one side higher. Sprinkle pink & yellow on top. Add more blue, then pack it. Sprinkle loose blue mix on top. Repeat. Smoosh 2 sides together; make molds touch all the way around. Tap both sides to release the bomb. Dry for 24-48 hours then shrink wrap them. Keep them out of direct sunlight. {*The pink color faded, but I am perplexed as to why… This is the first time I remember this happening. I will conduct more testing!*}
This recipe makes 4- 3 inch, 8 ounce bath bombs + a 2.5 inch bath bomb. Bath bombs will last 6 months but are best when fresh. The longer you wait to use them, the less vigorous they’ll be.
