The invasion of Sicily by Allied Forces under the supreme command of General Eisenhower has begun. Fighters and bombers launched the attack, followed by the invasion itself led by Airborne troops. The seaborne landings came next along a wide stretch of coastline. The task of the troops was to secure a bridgehead and then advance in land.
