This is part 1 of the trip to this lovely town called El Retiro which is quite quaint. It was founded in 1790. It is said that Don Ignacio Castañeda and his wife Doña Javiera Londoño were the first to settle this place and had 140 slaves in 1734. In 1766 the widow Doña Javiera Londoño granted the slaves freedom, this, the nickname Cuna De La Libertad which means The Birthplace Of Freedom. It is also said that this couple was the first to grant freedom to slaves in the Americas and the world. There's a popular folk festival every December from the 25th to the 30th called La Fiesta De Los Negritos. It is said that in exchange for granting the slaves freedom that they and their descendants beginning 1767 would hold a religious mass and celebration for the eternal rest of her soul as well as that of her husband Don Ignacio Castañeda. I've been to about 3 of them and they are pretty cool 😎🥳.
