The Woodland Kingfisher (Halcyon senegalensis) is one of Africa’s most beautiful birds. Woodland Kingfishers migrate to Kruger Park in South Africa during the rainy season to breed, and their descending trilling calls are heard throughout the park, particularly in forest along waterways. They have a wonderful courtship and territorial display in which the turquoise and black wings are spread, revealing the white feathers beneath the wings. This adult Woodland Kingfisher was displaying while perched and then flew off.
