In a special edition of The Virtual Visiting Professor Network, we have teamed up with The Red Journal for the first RedJournal@VVPN Vodcast, "Reflections on Pandemics: Scientific and Personal Journeys from HIV to COVID-19". This special edition is hosted by Dr. Anthony Zietman and Dr. Sue Yom, Editor-in-Chief and Deputy Editor of the Red Journal, and features guests Dr. Paul Volberding and Dr. Daphne Haas-Kogan. Dr. Paul Volberding is the Director of the amfAR Institute for HIV Cure, Gladstone Institute for Virology & Immunology, and Vitalant Research Institute, as well as a Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics at UCSF. In 1983 he formed the first inpatient ward for HIV patients. Dr. Daphne Haas-Kogan is Professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital. She began her medical training in the height of the HIV pandemic in San Francisco. In this first RedJournal@VVPN production, they share their incredible stories of working with patients with HIV, and and reflect upon parallels in today's current COVID-19 pandemic.
