Simulators are a great way to play and practice without having to go through the process of actually building your team. 6v6 singles, the most popular format in the west, is played on Pokemon Showdown with smogon rules. You can also play on Pokemon Showdown's VGC Ladder. In fact, most vgc players test their teams here before actually commiting to building it in game.
