The rare and original UK titles to Top Cat as what it was used to be carried as the "Boss Cat" to the BBC and Channel 4, Top Cat first aired on BBC One back on 16th May 1962 by carring the "Top Cat" name for the first few weeks, and was later renamed it as "The Boss Cat" by 13th June 1962, and later in 1967 as "Boss Cat" the reason for that because "Top Cat" was also the name of a then-popular British brand of cat food, and the BBC, on which the show aired, does not carry advertising. The name change was purely cosmetic, as the soundtrack and dialogue still continued to refer to the titular character by his original name. It was only the opening and ending footage that was altered: shots in which the Top Cat logo was used were cut (causing a noticeable sloppy jump in the footage in both instances) with a title card bearing the "Boss Cat" title added before the beginning of the actual episode, while Channel 4 on the other hand also airs the show sometime around the 1980s, but also carried the "Boss Cat" name, the UK however first uses the original "Top Cat" name when the VHS collection of that show was released in 1985 when the censorship started to slow down, the BBC ended airing Top Cat as "Boss Cat" in around 1989, and the censorship between the "Top Cat" name in the UK finally came to end in 1999, when the Top Cat brand got discontinued in Britain, making the original name "Top Cat" to be used again for re-runs and for the future films of the series itself.
Top Cat belongs to Hanna-Barbera and Warner Bros. Television.
