In 2019, the Shelbyville Community Remembrance Project Coalition was founded initially to memorialize the black victims of lynching in Shelby County, Kentucky. In 2021, in cooperation with the Equal Justice Initiative, they achieved their first major milestone - the erecting of three markers on the corner of 5th and Washington by the Old Jail in memory of Shelbyville's six lynching victims (currently known, as of the time of this video). This makes Shelbyville the first town in Kentucky to make such a gesture. This video highlights one of the most recent initiatives in recognizing a facet of local black history. Support the SCRPC!
