In this video, we are going to talk about Retaining wall, their TYPES, COMPONENTS of Cantilever Retaining Walls and Forces acting on a Retaining Wall.
Retaining wall resists the lateral pressure of Soil.
Retaining Walls have 4 types:
1. Free Standing Retaining Wall
2. Gravity Retaining Wall
3. Cantilever Retaining Wall
4. Counterfort/ Buttresses Retaining Wall
Cantilever Retaining Wall has the following Components:
1. Stem
2. Base Slab ( Heel & Toe)
3. Key (optional)
4. Expansion Joint
5. Drain Pipes/Weep Holes
FORCES Acting on a Retaining Wall:
1. Active Lateral Pressure
2. Passive Lateral Pressure
3. Surcharge Load
4. Self Weight of Retaining Wall
5. Weight of Backfill/ Soil
6. Upward Reaction due to Soil Bearing Capacity

We are Civil Engineers and are sharing our knowledge of engineering through our videos. We'll focus on subjects that are included in the Civil Engineering Course such as "Design of Structure", Hydraulics Engineering, Fluid Mechanics etc.
If you are studying Civil Engineering and are facing problems in any subject, then contact us. We'll make a video on the "TOPIC" suggested by you.
Thank you
