NHS doctors and nurses give an insight into how fearful and challenging treating coronavirus patients on what has become a typical day during the COVID-19 crisis.
For the first time cameras in the UK have been allowed to film inside an intensive care unit (ICU) treating critically ill coronavirus patients at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
The staff on the Covid-19 front line are under pressure - made worse as patients in their final moments cannot be consoled by their loved ones.
Nightshift Duty Manager, Ella Gorula was finding it emotionally tasking when she said: "The patients that died last night, you’re probably aware visiting and visitors are not allowed.”
And was visibly choked when she talked about her patients dying without family support.
Staff Nurse Ami Curtis suffers from asthma putting her at greater risk should she contract the deadly virus, she said: “It is scary but we have a duty to our patients. I’d lying if I said I wasn’t scared.”
Critical Care Consultant, Michelle Scott was worried about medical supplies, she said: “We don’t normally have the number of patients requiring oxygen therapy. It’s something that we worry about.
We may, unfortunately, run out of oxygen supply if we have too many patients needing us”
