For a long time I've wanted to catch and cook a fish in the backcountry.
Rob put together this 65 mile bikepacking loop with that goal in mind. This trip was more focused on the fishing and having a chill ride. He is calling this route the Land O'Lakes due to the number of lakes you pass by. You could even tag a few additional lakes if you want like Chain of Lakes.
The route starts at Tahklak lake and passes by Horseshoe, Walupt, Blue, and Olallie lakes. You'll also traverse along the North Fork of the Cispus River providing ample fishing opportunities. Make sure you are fishing at the NORTH FORK of the Cispus River, not the lower section... It gets too silty in the lower sections.
We saw A LOT of fish jumping at Horseshoe and Walupt but they weren't biting! We only caught 1 fish... and we fished for like 5 hours!
There are options on this route. You can opt to take the Valley Trail which sees a fair amount of motor bike traffic. As a result, we stuck to the gravel roads and in some cases some tarmac.
I think you could do this route with a gravel bike with pretty narrow tires. Generally the gravel was pretty smooth!
