The Bell Textron V-247 is an unmanned (almost #ipad controllable) #UAV primarily intended for the US Marines. It is named the V-247 by the company because it is planned that a two-aircraft team can provide 24/7 intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) over a given #area. The V-247 is slightly smaller than the V-22. In terms of gross weight about half it's size. The wing tips, and propeller blades fold inboard for stowage on #ship borne operations. The design uses tilt-rotors to take off vertically and transition to high-speed forward flight, enabling performance unachievable with just rotor-craft or fixed-wing aircraft. It leverages technologies which Bell previously utilised for the V-22 Osprey and #V-280 #Valor for the Future Vertical Lift program, and the HV-911 Eagle Eye, another smaller unmanned tilt-rotor dropped in 2008. The aircraft is capable of performing a variety of missions including electronic warfare, persistent fire support, airborne early #warning (AEW), and resupply. Unlike the V-22 Osprey which is currently unarmed, additional hard points have been added to the V-247; 2 x per wing (with sidewinder capability for Air-to-Air, as well Hellfire's for Air-to-Surface). Along the exterior fuselage, side cheek mounts (for torpedo anti-ship and anti-submarine operations) and a payload bay in the internal fuselage for small diameter bombs (E.g. SBD2's), small buoys, or expendable UAVs; . In addition The V-247 also has an aerial refuelling capability, so it can extend its operational endurance.
