Ashenafi Kebede was a multifaceted Ethiopian composer, ethnomusicologist, and educator known for blending Ethiopian and Japanese musical influences in his compositions. He founded Ethiopia's National Saint Yared School of Music and was honored as a National Composer by Emperor Haile Selassie I. Kebede's legacy includes significant contributions to ethnomusicology, African-American cultural studies, and his impactful leadership at institutions in both Ethiopia and the United States until his passing in 1998.
