China has only one time zone. Why is that the case? Back in the time, China had five time zones because the territory was huge, but now it has one time zone. [A map of China in 5 different time zones separated by color with clocks on each time zone appears top right.]
It's called China Standard Time, CST for short or Beijing Standard Time. [A map of China in black appears with a white text, China Standard Time, and a clock below it. Then a same map appears with white text, Beijing Standard Time.] That's 8 hours ahead of the UTC time zone. UTC means Coordinated Universal Time. China's northwestern region called, Xinjiang, uses an unofficial UTC time that is 6 hours ahead. [A map of China appears top right with a green arrow pointing Xinjiang, the most northwestern part of the country. A black text, UTC +6 Xinjiang appears] Also in the past, China used to use daylight saving time, but since 1992, there has been no daylight savings time. [A text appears top right, In 1992, then Daylight Savings Time with a red X on a clock.] Interesting, right?!
