In this video I will show the preparation of methyl formate from (almost) anhydrous methanol and 85% formic acid, using anhydrous calcium chloride as catalyst and boiling stones.
Methyl formate is a colorless liquid, with an odor between lemonade and rum, extremely volatile and flammable.
