The National Workshops on Current Trends in Public Sector Accounting, Auditing, and Reforms were co-organized by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation (OAuGF) and coordinated by the African Development Studies Center (ADSC). The workshops took place from July 1 to July 4, 2024, at the Four Points Sheraton Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria. They brought together professionals from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to discuss and share insights on the latest trends and best practices in public sector accounting and auditing. The event aimed to bridge knowledge gaps and address challenges in the field, creating a collaborative environment for participants to learn from experts and each other. The workshops included lectures, panel discussions, and interactive Q&A sessions covering a wide range of topics, including the significance of accurate financial reporting, strategies for enhancing transparency and accountability, and the role of technology in modernizing public sector auditing practices. Hon. Bamidele Salam, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee, delivered a keynote address on the final day, emphasizing the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure the effective use of allocated funds for providing essential services like education, security, and infrastructure. He highlighted the importance of learning from past mistakes and collaborating to improve public accountability. A major highlight of the event was the launch of a PAC digital portal, aimed at simplifying the document submission process for MDAs and improving operational efficiency. The workshops also provided networking and professional development opportunities through knowledge-sharing and interview segments, fostering in-depth discussions and the exchange of valuable insights and experiences. Overall, the National Workshops on Current Trends in Public Sector Accounting, Auditing, and Reforms were a significant success, with a lasting impact on all attendees and paving the way for continued enhancements in public sector financial management in Nigeria.
