On July 13, 2018, we had a special creative writing and filmmaking workshop for kids between the ages of 5 and 8, to make campaign videos about getting their toys elected president! First we read the book "President Squid" by Aaron Reynolds, and then using iPads with the iClips app, kids filmed clips of their toys arguing their case for why they should be president. We combined the clips together into these films. I provided the props--the kids provided their own cute toys and all of the imagination! Parents were very involved too in filming and editing. It was a fun and successful program that gave beginning readers a way to learn about how to make an argument and how to have fun with monologue in film and theater.
