Many people probably don’t consider the inherent violence and costs of battle within its own borders, including the disturbing war crimes and underreported massacres against certain demographics, including the Native American populations of the 19th century. One such tragedy in question was the Sand Creek Massacre of 1864, its victims the endgame of Civil War fallout and the treatment towards the Plains Native Americans in the years leading up to the mid 1860’s.
To shed light on one of the US Army’s darkest moments, and one of the least-discussed war crimes during the heydey of the wild west, here is a close inspection of the Sand Creek Massacre and the destruction of the Cheyenne tribes in the Great Plains of America.
