I’m pretty sure Ned was offered the throne and he rejected it, saying it was rightfully Roberts. With Ned sitting on the throne, Westeros would probably be a better place.
Ned could have taken the throne, the Starks were as much the aggrieved party as Robert was, but Ned said that Robert’s claim was better because of his Targaryen blood.

If Ned had taken the throne, Robert might have stormed out, got drunk and woken up the next morning and said, “ Ned, I had a terrible dream that I was the king for the rest of my life“. Tywin probably wouldn’t have married Cersei to ‘just’ Lord Baratheon.
Robert would have lived at Storm’s End, hunting all day then drinking and whoring all night. He would marry someone else, probably someone from the Vale that Jon Arryn picked out. Robert would have only freaked out a few weeks or months later when Ned announced to everyone that Jon was Raygar’s trueborn son and the rightful Lord of the Seven Kingdoms.
Well Cersei marries Benjen I guess so she’s out of Robert’s hair. Robert marries probably some local Swann girl and is thus much happier since he avoided the whole Cersei thing. he would be pretty esctatic as he would soon see being King is all responsibility and little fun. being a Lord Paramount is a little more freeing. though it all came down to the horrible marriage that he was stuck in. had he been married to almost anybody else, he would have been much happier.
and then there is the fact that Liyanna’s still dead. having said that, he of course would back Ned to the very end, fight his wars, and support his claim.#gameofthrones #housestark #robertbaratheon #nedstark
