Based on an interview with Eric Schmidt at D9, Kara Swisher will discuss how Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook dominate consumer technology today through their platform strategies.
For example:
Google offers Gmail, Google Docs, Google+ and, of course, Search; all connected by your Google ID.
Apple changed music with the iPod and iTunes, shaped the mobile landscape with the iPhone and owns the tablet market with the iPad, all connected via iCloud.
Amazon is a massive retailer of books, music and electronics and is expanding its presence in the tablet/eReader space, with a big push to host it all via AWS.
Facebook connects you with your friends and on various platforms and devices with its huge and powerful social networking.
Kara discusses the competitive landscape across these frenemies. Fierce competition between Apple & Google on mobile -- alongside their partnerships with Google Search and Maps. How Google is starting to sell a wide range of entertainment options, which spells competition to Amazon and Apple -- while Amazon's Kindle Fire is trying to take some of Apple's share of the tablet market. Facebook has been able to ward off competition in its arena so far, but Google+ is edging in. And one of the biggest question that remains is: Where is Microsoft in all of this?
