One of the problems that we encounter as developing musicians, is the idea that intonation is a fixed “right” or “wrong” - that you’re either “in-tune” or “out of tune” with no regard for the nuance that really goes into developing a deep understanding of intonation.
A given pitch does not live in the same place in all keys!
In this course I will show you many ways to reimagine your relationship with intonation, and how to use drones to do so.
So, What is the Drone Course?
I created this course to take a deep dive into both the fundamentals of intonation and the practical usage of that good intonation to internalize and improvise in the modes of Major and Melodic Minor (which make up a LOT of the music we play in all musical worlds).
The Course is a resource for deepening your relationship with SOUND and using your ears as your guide. You will not only improve your intonation in all keys, but you’ll also learn to externalize the sound of the modes of the Major and Melodic Minor scales.
The course is made up of deep dives into all of this information, as well as practical exercises that you can work into your daily routine - whether you are an improviser or not!
Why should I use the course?
I created the drone course to be a resource for musicians of any instrument to deepen their understanding of intonation and improvisation within the realm of SOUND. Using your ears before your eyes! If you’ve ever wondered why you aren’t playing in tune in a particular key, or ensemble, adding these exercises to your routine will take your listening awareness to another level.
From an improviser's point of view, there are so many methods for learning to improvise over harmony, but hardly any that focus on addressing improvisation from a sonic point of view - understanding and getting inside of the various modes and sounds that make up our musical worlds as improvisers! This course will help to break them down piece by piece, and offer some exercises to help get even more familiar with them.
