In Puerto Rico’s Luquillo Mountains, you’ll find America’s only Tropical National Forest, El Yunque.
El Yunque National Forest receives up to 240 inches of rainfall per year that feeds the rivers, waterfalls, and streams that cross the Forest.
The water here is clean, clear, and cool.
We crave these waters and each year, we hike through the Puerto Rican jungle to swim and play in these wild pools.
The federally designated “Wild and Scenic River”, Río Mameyes, is the only river in the Island that runs un-interrupted from its origin to the sea.
It serves as a baseline for understanding the health of other river systems because its primitive and pristine conditions have created an ideal situation for aquatic diversity.
So for the adventurous families who travel to this wild blue place, I hope it’s with the lightest of strokes and bluest of minds.
Come along with us down the lush Angelito’s Trail to the wild waters within El Yunque National Forest.
