Bathsheba is a significant figure in the Hebrew Bible, known for her beauty and her relationship with King David. She was initially the wife of Uriah the Hittite, one of David's loyal soldiers. King David, captivated by Bathsheba's beauty, saw her bathing from his palace rooftop and desired her. He summoned her, and she became pregnant by him. To cover up the adultery, David attempted to persuade Uriah to go home to his wife, but Uriah refused while his comrades were in battle. Consequently, David arranged for Uriah to be placed in the frontline of the battlefield, where he was killed.
After Uriah's death, David married Bathsheba, and she gave birth to their child. However, the child died shortly after birth, as a consequence of David's sin, according to the prophet Nathan. Bathsheba later became the mother of Solomon, who succeeded David as king and was known for his wisdom and building the Temple in Jerusalem. Bathsheba's relationship with David is marked by tragedy, repentance, and redemption, playing a pivotal role in the lineage of the Davidic dynasty.
