I recently discovered that both Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor shaved their face as a beauty treatment. I was so curious to see if it worked and wanted to try it myself.

Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor employed a basic grooming tool: a razor to combat undesirable facial hair.

Marilyn shaved her face frequently and did not believe the popular belief that unwanted hair would grow in darker and thicker.

In 1915, women began shaving their heads. Between World W I and II, this was the time period. Previously, ladies just pulled unwanted hair from the neck and face. Because the clothes they wore at the period were significantly less revealing, they were the only parts of a woman's body that were not required to be covered by clothing.

People began to think of a woman's face as a mirror of her personality in the 18th century, and "porcelain" complexions as attractive. As a result, getting rid of facial hair was seen as a moral and aesthetic issue. They were employing tree resins, waxes, or shoemakers at the time, and the pain was horrific. Instead of razors, they employed an industrial depilatory or handmade unguents to shave these areas.

A T-shaped safety razor was invented in the nineteenth century. It took the place of homemade depilatory creams. Shaving was associated with masculinity at the time, therefore men considered their personal area to be private. Women gradually adopted them since they were a less expensive and less painful alternative to conventional hair removal procedures.

Underarm Shaving

Women's sleeveless dresses became increasingly popular in the 1920s. Fashion was the catalyst for ladies shaving their heads for the first time. As a result, getting rid of the hair beneath the arms became a top goal. No one had ever shaved these areas before. Even the word "underarm" was regarded as ludicrous. During this period, Gillette developed Milady Décolleté and launched the Anti-underarm Campaign. Its goal was to raise awareness among women about the significance of shaving their underarms and why they should do so with razors.

Legs Shaving

Women were encouraged to shave their legs hair in the 1940s and 1950s. They couldn't wear stockings every day since there was a lack of nylon during WW2; as a result, they couldn't wear them every day. As a result, the only option was to walk barefoot, which was deemed socially unacceptable. When society became more accepting of the idea, ladies began shaving their legs to keep them looking clean.

Dancers were previously the only ones who shaved their legs because they were the centre of attention. Skirts became fashionable in the 1950s. Women were suddenly revealing a lot of leg, prompting them to shave their legs, armpits, and eyebrows. Men were not anticipated to shave anything after such a significant improvement.
