“SNOWBLIND” has lived many lives and taken many forms. Originally conceived as a love song for a former flame, it then morphed into a breakup song that was kicked around with the band “Earthborn” until it resurrected once more for inclusion on “Deep Winter.” “Snowblind” was inspired thematically by two wildly different pieces of music (“Picture in a Frame” by Tom Waits, and “The Blizzard” by Jim Reeves). It speaks from the point of view of someone who is, or recently was, very much in love - waiting up all night to perhaps make sure their beloved got home safely or was unable to sleep and occupied their mind with memories of everything they used to be. Sitting near a window, watching the deep winter blow outside, they ponder the fragility of life and how an open window could end it all. Maybe their beloved is out in the storm, maybe they have passed on, or they could have had an amicable split and they are off living their own life now. This song is for everyone who has ever felt those feelings, and that even on the coldest nights we’ve got fond memories to keep us warm. And in that sense "Snowblind" is arguably the only positive song on "Deep Winter."
