Remember the summer of 2021? The devastating floods in Europe? Heavy and persistent rain can cause flooding out of virtually nothing. Small to medium-sized bodies of water in particular can turn from a trickle to a torrent in no time. The earlier these situations are identified, the faster and more effectively safety measures can be taken.
We have developed a system with our partner Okeanos which does just that. It measures rainfall, ground moisture and water levels throughout a catchment area and sends this data to the cloud. There, artificial intelligence continuously calculates the values using weather forecasts. The system automatically informs the user of any danger – thus giving them more time to act. Because the system is always learning, flood events can be identified even earlier and more effectively. And targeted critical areas can be secured.
