Hiking el congost de Mont-Rebei - the Mont Rebei gorge in Catalunya is a not to be missed experience if you are travelling through this part of the world. I saw photos of the gorge years ago and always wanted to go but never managed to fit it into one my Catalunya trips until recently.

Mont-Rebei is about 3 hours drive from Barcelona and an hour north of Lleida. It's in a great spot, nestled on the border between Catalunya and Aragon and on the edge of the Serra del Montsec range where there are plenty of other hiking options. This part of Lleida is also a great spot for cloud inversions in the cooler months of the year and there are great views across to the Pyrenees.

The gorge is spectacular. Much shorter than Cares Gorge in the Picos de Europa but it's equally dramatic. There are a number of route options to combine a walk through the gorge with, and you can also kayak or take a boat ride through it. There are also via ferrata and rock climbing routes through this area if you want to get a closer look at the griffon and bearded vultures circling the skies above you.
