STORYLINE:
An Israeli military court on Thursday set December 12 as the date for the trial of various Palestinian officials and lawmakers seized in an Israeli roundup two months ago.
Two Palestinian Cabinet ministers, the speaker of the Palestinian parliament and 12 lawmakers were amongst those seized.
Israel arrested the Hamas officials after Hamas-linked militants attacked an army post near Gaza and captured an Israeli soldier.
The raid also sparked a widescale Israeli assault on the Gaza Strip that has killed more than 200 people.
The Hamas officials were charged with membership and activity in an outlawed organisation, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
The parliamentary speaker, Abdel Aziz Duaik, who has been in poor health, was led into court in the Ofer military prison camp, just outside the Palestinian city of Ramallah, shackled and wearing pyjamas, while others were dressed in brown prison overalls.
"It is Palestinian legitimacy that is being tried, which is unacceptable," Duaik said.
But Israeli Defence Force spokesman Avichai Edri said "There is no immunity for anybody; if anyone gets involved in activities against Israel, then Israel has the right to arrest them."
In all, Israel has arrested 30 Hamas lawmakers and five Cabinet ministers.
