Another Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera (HD) test. This time with the Nikon 135mm. The adapter did not have a focal reducer so there has been some impressive magnification here. Most of the footage was wide open at F2.8. Close focus was very impressive at something like 50cm which allowed some large clean spherical bokeh near the end of the video. The lens is an old fully manual ais version which means the focus was smooth and easy to control.
All footage filmed in Raw, 180 shutter angle and 800 iso. This footage received a minimal grade made within Davinci Resolve.
The ambient sound is more useable than usual as I had a Rode Micro plugged into a Zoom H1 as a preamp. The audio setting was for 'line in' for the Pocket.
Overall I am very impressed with how much clarity and detail this camera sucks in. Low light doesn't seem to be an issue at 800 iso. Despite the small sensor only using the central part of the lens the footage is pretty sharp. I loved the atmosphere of Brighton at night and with the long zoom lens I was able to get some very natural candid footage without anyone noticing.
I'll be testing more of my Nikon ais lenses in the near future. I have the Metabones Pocket Speedbooster if anyone is interested in comparison videos.
Overall, whilst my main work cameras are the GH5s/GH5 combo I adore using the Pocket HD more than anything else. I will be uploading more footage soon.
