The July cover is the latest in a series of portraits commissioned by Tatler. Each has heralded a new era within the Royal Family, celebrating the strength and dignity of those dedicating their life to public duty. To mark the Platinum Jubilee in 2022, Tatler commissioned a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Nigerian artist Oluwole Omofemi. The portrait was followed in July 2023 by Trinidadian artist Sarah Knights’s portrait of the newly crowned King Charles III.
Together, they sowed the germ of an idea, which has recently borne fruit as a new artists’ residency at the King’s estate in Scotland, Dumfries House. The Akoje Residency was announced earlier this year, founded by rugby star Maro Itoje and his business partner Khalil Akar in collaboration with the King’s Foundation. In tandem with this exciting development, in the third portrait of the series, Tatler was delighted to commission British-Zambian artist Hannah Uzor to paint the much-loved and highly respected Princess of Wales.
