Why is non-duality different from spiritual traditions? In this talk, Rupert explains what sets the non-dual understanding apart from progressive traditions.
Rupert says: ‘The mixture of yourself, pure being, plus the content of your mind makes for the separate self, or the person – the temporary finite being that we seem to be. Most spiritual teachings are directed towards that person, and they give that person something to do to disidentify themselves from the mind and gradually trace their way back to their true nature.
‘They are perfectly valid approaches, but they’re not what we do here. We just ask the apparent person one thing – who are you really? We give our attention directly to our essential self, or pure being. Just tracing your way back to your true nature and staying there releases the patterns of identification effortlessly. You don’t have to work on them. The understanding does the work.’
