Hyde Park bombing suspect John Downey can be extradited from the Republic of Ireland to Northern Ireland to face charges over the homicide of two soldiers in 1972. Lance Corporal Alfred Johnston, 32, and Private James Eames, 33, were killed when an IRA bomb exploded in a vehicle they were checking on. The 67-year-old had objected to extradition but Dublin High Court rejected his arguments today. Five years ago he stood trial accused of murdering four Royal Household Cavalrymen in Hyde Park in 1982 but the case collapsed after it was revealed he had a letter from Tony Blair assuring him he was 'not wanted by the authorities'.
