Thousands of people have rallied across Australia calling for its national day celebrations to change.
The Indigenous community and its supporters say the arrival of the first British fleet on this day in the 18th century marked a day of genocide, and a public holiday glorifies the invasion.
The debate about Australia Day is part of a larger one about increasing recognition for Indigenous Australians and giving the community a greater say in national decision-making.
