Hyppolite Ntigurirwa of Rwanda was just 7 when his father was killed in the genocide which left nearly a million Tutsis dead in the span of 100 days. Sharing his harrowing story of witnessing the slaughter and rape of his family members, he talks about his initiative Be The Peace, where he has established a network of five Be The Peace Clubs in Rwandan schools and reached 5,000 students through art and debating.
This session took place during the Peace & Reconciliation Plenary Session at the 2017 One Young World Summit, the world's premier forum for young leaders, in Bogotá, Colombia. The Summit brought together 1,300 delegates from more than 190 countries, empowering them to make lasting connections to create positive change.
