A former South Carolina police officer has been arrested in China after spending 13 years on the run, a US Marshal spokesperson announced. US Marshals said that Dan William Hiers slayed his wife and molested a 10-year-old girl before going on the run.
He was taken into custody in Shanghai, China, where he had assumed the name of David Williams. His arrest comes after an allegation emerged on Chinese social media Weibo, in which a woman surnamed Wang claimed that while perusing the US Marshals’ most wanted list, she recognized Hiers as her former English teacher at a Chinese university.

A double slaying suspect on the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list was captured in Mexico after 16 years on the run. Octaviano Juarez-Corro, who was added to the FBI list, was busted by law enforcement in Guadalajara after authorities received a tip of his whereabouts.
Juarez-Corro was being sought for a brazen shooting at a bustling Milwaukee park on Memorial Day in 2006. During a picnic at the lakefront park, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and fatally shot two victims and wounded three others, including his estranged wife, as explained by FBI. “Octaviano Juarez-Corro spent the last 16 years running from law enforcement, hiding in another country, and believing time and distance was on his side,” Michael Hensle, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Milwaukee field office, said in a statement.
