Le Voyageur (The Hitchhiker littéralement L'Auto-stoppeur) est une série télévisée franco-canado-américaine en 85 épisodes de 26 minutes, créée par Riff Markowitz, Lewis Chesler et Richard Rothstein et diffusée du 23 novembre 1983 au 12 mai 1987 sur HBO, puis du 22 mai 1989 au 22 février 1991 sur USA Network, et au Canada sur First Choice.
En France, la série a été diffusée à partir du 13 septembre 1986 sur Antenne 2. Rediffusion des quatre premières saisons dès le 14 novembre 1988 dans l'émission Les Accords du Diable sur La Cinq, puis dès le 21 juillet 1989 diffusion de la saison 5 coproduite par La Cinq. En 1999, rediffusion intégrale sur Série Club et diffusion de la saison 6 inédite à la suite de l'arrêt de La Cinq.
Synopsis
Un peu à la façon de La Quatrième Dimension, cette série est une anthologie d'histoires fantastiques, policières avec en plus de l'érotisme présentées par un mystérieux auto-stoppeur (joué par Page Fletcher).
La série est une coproduction entre le Canada, les États-Unis et la France. Filmée à Vancouver et à Toronto, au Canada, et à Paris, en France. Elle a été produite par Corazon Productions pour la saison 1 (3 épisodes), Quintina Productions pour les saisons 2 à 4 (36 épisodes), enfin Atlantique Productions, La Cinq et Quintina Productions pour les saisons 5 à 6 (47 épisodes). La dernière saison n'ayant pu être diffusée (bien que doublée) pour cause de dépôt de bilan de La Cinq, c'est Série Club qui la récupérera pour la diffuser courant 1999.

The Hitchhiker (also known as Deadly Nightmares in the United Kingdom and Le Voyageur in France) is a mystery horror anthology television series. It aired from 1983 to 1987 on HBO, and First Choice in Canada. The series later moved to the USA Network from 1989 to 1991.
Synopsis
Each episode is introduced and concluded by a mysterious wanderer known only as "The Hitchhiker" (played by Page Fletcher). There were a total of 85 episodes over six seasons (39 first runs on HBO and 46 first runs on USA).
Production
The series was a United States/Canada/France co-production. It was filmed in Vancouver and Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Paris, France. The show was produced by Corazon Productions (Season 1 for a total of three episodes), Quintina Productions (Seasons 2-4 for a total of 36 episodes), and La Cinq, Atlantique & Quintina Productions (Seasons 5-6 for a total of 46 episodes).
The Hitchhiker was created by Lewis Chesler and Riff Markowitz, later joined by Richard Rothstein.

Eager and unscrupulous tabloid newspaper reporter Jane L. will (played by Kirstie Alley) go to any length to score a juicy scoop. Jane L. gets in way over her head when she goes snooping around a remote rural mansion in search of Billy Baltimore, a legendary 60s acid rock guitarist who reportedly died twenty years ago.
