Video Of A Bateleur Eagle Pair (Terathopius ecaudatus) Near Phalaborwa In The Kruger Park
The Bateleur Eagle (Terathopius ecaudatus) very rarely makes any noises, except the occasional begging call when it comes to food and juveniles. They are a stunning and large Eagle, with beautiful colouration on their face and beaks. The Bateleur Eagle is an expert hunter, and I have not seen them in pairs very often in the Kruger National Park, especially since both these Bateleurs seem to be full-blown adult birds of prey. Sometimes you will see a sub-adult with a mature Raptor, but not in this case!
This was the scene very close to Phalaborwa Gate - an area I have had great success with birds of prey.
The Bateleur Eagle, a captivating raptor with distinctive plumage and aerial prowess, graces the skies of Kruger National Park with its majestic presence. With its striking combination of black, white, and chestnut colours, the Bateleur is a true spectacle against the South African landscape. These eagles are often spotted soaring gracefully above the savannah, showcasing their agility and keen eyesight as they hunt for prey. Named after the French word for "tightrope walker," the Bateleur's acrobatic flight and impressive hunting skills make it a highlight for bird enthusiasts and wildlife observers in Kruger National Park. As they navigate the thermals and engage in breathtaking aerial displays, Bateleur Eagles contribute to the park's rich avian diversity, adding a touch of elegance to the vibrant tapestry of the African wilderness.
