The annual awareness day on 20 May marks the work of James Lind who held the first clinical trial in 1747 on board the HMS Salisbury when he experimented with different remedies for helping 12 men with scurvy. The Scottish Physician (featured in the video) found that sailors given citrus fruits made an impressive recovery compared to the other treatments.
Each year, doctors, nurses and research staff around the country mark the occasion by taking time out to discuss the research happening at their NHS Trust or research organisation with patients and members of the public. Find out how you can 'Be Part of Research' here:
