@TheSkinnywithJoeyMerlino In this episode of Real Mob Stories with James Proctor, we delve into the intense rivalry between Joey Merlino and the 10th & Oregon Crew, a predominantly Italian-American independent gang operating in Philadelphia. Since the 1960s, the Philly Family had at times aligned with the 10th & Oregon Crew, but tensions rose when Merlino was released from prison in 1994. The conflict with Stanfa was over, but disputes emerged as the 10th & Oregon Crew refused to pay their street tax. Led by the Turra family, the crew was heavily involved in drug dealing. In 1995, a message was sent when Louis Turra, the crew leader, was roughed up and his Rolex stolen. Blaming the Philly Family, Louis Turra plotted to take out Joey Merlino. However, the plot failed when Louis Turra, his father Anthony, and 13 others were arrested in 1997. While awaiting trial, Louis Turra passed away in MCC Manhattan. On March 18, 1998, Anthony Turra, terminally ill with cancer and in a wheelchair, passed away outside his home. Most of the indicted members of the 10th & Oregon Crew were convicted, but Joey Merlino was acquitted of the Anthony Turra murder. Today, the 10th & Oregon Crew still exists, albeit to a lesser extent, and has maintained relatively peaceful relations with the Philly Family over the past 20 years. Join us as we explore the crazy rivalry and failed plot involving Joey Merlino and the 10th & Oregon Crew.
