1)Introduction:-
A neutrino is a subatomic particle that is very similar to an electron, but has no charge and a very small mass, which might even be zero. Neutrinos are one of the most abundant particles in the universe.
2) Neutrino creations:-
Neutrinos created by various radioactive decay process :-
Bigbang event ,spinning of black holes and
neutron stars, beta decays .Also from supernova and core of a star. The majority of neutrinos which are detected about the Earth are from nuclear reactions inside the Sun.
3)Neutrino Oscillation:-
Neutrino Oscillation is a quantum mechanical phenomenon where neutrino created with a specific flavor" (electron, muon, or tau) can later be measured to have a different flavour. Each neutrino flavor is a mixture of different mass eigenstates. As neutrinos propagate it start to change flavours.
For the three neutrinos species that we
know to exist, the principle of superposition allows "flavor" states, namely neutrinos that interact to produce electrons, muons, or taus, to be (orthogonal) combinations of three neutrino states with definite mass. In other words, when a weak interaction produces a flavor state, such as a muon neutrino, that state is a mixture of states with different mass. These states evolve at different rates so that a later time, the state may acquire some component of a new flavor state, such that if it interacts, it may
do so as a flavor state different from its original flavor. This flavor change, namely that a neutrino is created in one flavor and interacts some time later as another, is the primary manifestation of neutrino oscillations.
4)Neutrino Discovery and Detectors :-
Wolfgang Pauli first proposed the existence of neutrinos in 1930 while investigating the conundrum of radioactive beta decay, in which some of the original energy appeared to be missing after an electron was emitted from an atomic nucleus.
In 1959, Clyde Cowan and Fred Reines
finally found a particle that fit the
description of the proposed neutrino by studying the particles created by a nuclear power plant.
There are so many scientific Observatory for neutrinos. The world largest neutrino Observatory made from a giant cube of ice
at the South Pole aimed to detecting
subatomic particles traveling near
speed of light .
5) Neutrino as "TheGhost Particle ": -
Neutrinos only interact through gravity and the weak forces, trillions of these "neutrino" stream through your body unnoticed and unhindered every second.Neutrinos are hard to detect because of its oscillation property.
Due to this weird behaviour it is called the Ghost particle.
Summary:-
Neutrino rarely interacts with surrounding matters through gravity and weak forces. And Sterile neutrinos are hypothetical particles are suggested to be dark matter particle.
So neutrinos can help us to understand the dark matter and other mystery matter of our universe .
