In Rome, residents in the northern section of the city were advised not to drive because of the risk of flooding.
The river Tiber had flooded early on Friday and its muddy waters filled with debris appeared to be high around Tiberina island.
Elsewhere, firefighters rescued six people after a mudslide near Aurelia Road in the city, where a group of travellers live in temporary buildings.
Meanwhile, high water levels along Florence's Arno River caught the attention of tourists - who said they were surprised to see muddy waters, littered with debris.
Sun Man Kung, a tourist from South Korea described the Arno as "dark and dangerous."
"I suppose it was clearer but it's very dark now," he added.
South-west of Florence in Tuscany, heavy rain and storms continued to lash the region on Friday.
