Around a million people usually take part in the Pride Parade. This year, however, Christopher Street Day in Berlin will take place on a smaller scale due to the corona. Contrary to tradition, the demonstration takes place primarily as a protest march, while the party aspect is fading into the background. Everyone can run at the CSD. However, all demo participants must comply with a mask requirement. The organizers also ask you to leave the train briefly to eat, drink or smoke, so that the mask requirement can be complied with during the demonstration.
The CSD commemorates the first known protest by homosexuals and other sexual minorities against police arbitrariness on New York's Christopher Street in Greenwich Village on June 27, 1969 in the Stonewall Inn bar. The result was street battles between homosexuals and the police that lasted for days.
