The firewall rules are similar to traditional, appliance-based rules but there are a few notable differences. Firewall rules can be created in gcloud, console, terraform, or via the API. This video demonstrates gcloud. gcloud is available in cloud shell or can be installed locally.
Cloud Shell is Google Cloud Platform's development and scripting environment. It is implemented in the web browser. Cloud Shell acts like an online terminal with utilities, gcloud command-line tool, kubectl, and standard Linux tools preinstalled. Cloud Shell is ideal for quick maintenance tasks, automation, gcloud scripting, and other tasks that do not require a local installation of gcloud.
