I had been overweight all of my life, and I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes in 2007 at the age of 47. When I started at MRC, My Hemoglobin AIC was 7.6 (for reference: anything over 6.5 is considered "diabetic"). My doctor had me on a non-insulin medication that I injected into my stomach daily along with the oral medication I had been on for years, and my A1C still wasn't coming down. I started with MRC in July of 2014 because I needed to improve my health and I didn't want to be on insulin, which was going to be the next step for me if I didn't make a change.
I followed the MRC plan which included many menu options and I consistently lost weight. In December 2014, I was down 50 lbs. When I received the results of my latest blood panel from my doctor, my A1C was 5.6 !
I have lost 72 pounds, and I am determined to keep it off. I still go to MRC to weigh-in twice a week, I drink all of my water each day, and I keep a food log. I feel healthy for the first time in my life. I swim 1/2 mile twice a week, and I do the elliptical at least three times a week without my hip, knees, or feet causing me pain. I never thought it would be possible for me to get healthy, but with MRC, I am. I think about my weight every day, but instead of being frustrated, I have a plan and I gave myself my life back!
If I had one thing to advise to a new MRC member, it would be that this program really works. It is less expensive than a trip to the hospital. I tried everything (as I am sure you have) to lose weight. I feel like I have been given the education and tools needed to maintain my weight. With MRC, you can stay on track. Even now some days can be a struggle, but I remind myself that I'm worth it!
