Mark Godfrey, Senior Curator of International Art at Tate Modern takes the audience through his exhibition titled, “Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power” exploring how American cultural identity was re-shaped at a time of social unrest and political struggle in the 1960’s and 1970’s. In this talk, Mark Godfrey explains how the idea for the exhibit came to be and explores the shift in mindset that occurred not only in the concept, but also in the way the exhibition was organized, marketed and launched in ways never done before. Dr. Mark Godfrey is Senior Curator of International Art at Tate Modern in London, where he has organized major exhibitions on the work of key contemporary artists from all over the world and has published extensively on conceptual art, photography and durational media. Godfrey received his PhD in History of Art from University College London and prior to joining Tate Modern in 2007, was a Lecturer in History and Theory of Art at The Slade School of Fine Art, University College London.
