"Listen loud and clear," said YBN Cordae at the top of "My Name Is," the Eminem remix he dropped earlier this month. "This is history." Revisiting the breakout single from one of rap's consensus GOAT picks was a bold move for any young MC, but Cordae held his own—swiftly establishing himself as one of this generation's most gifted new lyricists. Two weeks later Cordae clapped back at J Cole's SoundCloud rapper critique "1985" with a joint called "Old N*ggas," diving headfirst into hip hop's generational debate. The sheer brilliance of his bars muted the complaints of mad old heads. We first met Cordae at Mass Appeal Manor during this year's SXSW. He was chilling with Nahmir, kicking it with Wigz on the back deck and generally minding his own biz. As soon as we heard the flows of the artist formerly known as Entendre we had to reach out to the young boss for an Open Space interview. While he was in MASS APPEAL HQ he blessed us with a STAIRWELL FREESTYLE. Is he really "The best thing from PG since Kevin Durant?" Check the rhyme and let us know in the comments section.
