My mastering process using analog vacuum tubes as 'tone processors' the most prominent being a Tung-Sol 421A power tube. from 1965 and GE 5670 internally matched pair for pre-amp tubes.
Various tubes of the same protocol (6080 + 5670) will have different characters to them. One could take a bright tube setup (depending on the preamp you use, you could have an additional of 2 pre-amp tubes that work on the left and right channel plus the big power tube that drives the output) record through your preamp and have a copy that has brighter cymbals without touching an EQ. Then one could take a bass-y tube and have a copy with better developed bass. With time matching, one could highpass+lowpass these two copies and "stitch" them together elmininating the many steps involved getting these same results (90% of the time not as well as a analog tube can produce).
Physics is amazing.
Enjoy the awesome clarity and detail as well as the wicked soundstage of these beautiful little things!
