These sweet potato dog chews are SO healthy and EASY to make. You don’t need any special gadgets (like a dehydrator) to make them and there’s just ONE ingredient - Sweet Potatoes!
According to PETMD, sweet potatoes are one of the best dietary sources of vitamin A, which promotes healthy skin, coat, eyes, nerves, and muscles in dogs. Sweet potatoes are also a rich source of vitamins A, C, B6, potassium, calcium, and iron for dogs which make these a great treat choice for your pup!
Here’s what you’ll need to make these sweet potato dog chews:
A few large sweet potatoes
Coconut oil or parchment paper (optional)
Baking sheet
Directions:
Preheat your oven to its lowest setting temp setting, mine was 170F
Set aside a baking sheet either lined with parchment paper or lightly greased with coconut oil
Wash and peel the sweet potatoes
You can slice the potatoes either lengthwise 1/3 - 1/4 inch thick or cut them like round chips.
I chose lengthwise because I have large dogs and prefer bigger chews for them.
Place your potato slices on baking sheet and into the oven for 4-8 hours turning once half way through. Bake time will vary depending on your oven temp and also what consistency you would like the chews to be. I left mine in the oven for about 6 hours and they were chewy with a little crunch. Perfect!
