Less than two weeks before U.S. midterm elections, a new element of fear and uncertainty has been injected into the campaign in the wake of suspected pipe bombs that were sent to several prominent Democrats. That, in turn, has sparked a renewed focus on the sharp political rhetoric that has long shaped the current divisive atmosphere, with calls from both parties to temper the partisanship.
