A successful label is usually the result of several well-known artists. Cash Money Records is a little bit different in that it is a celebrity-level label and is most well-known for launching the careers of several independent artists. Though it had its major successes like Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne, it also had a host of minor stars that rose to prominence before seemingly falling off of the radar. Jay Sean, a UK-born white-collar musical prodigy, piqued the group's interest and became the next new act on the roster.
Jay was studying medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry before dropping out in 2003 to pursue a career in music. He initially formed a part of UK’s Asian Underground scene as part of the Rishi Rich Project before finding his way onto the Cash Money Label. What did he do while there and why did he leave? Why did he produce some of the best music of his career and then walk away? Let’s dive in and find out more about this musical prodigy.
